Mumps is a viral infection of the salivary glands. The symptoms are fever, headache and swelling of the salivary glands and the neck area. The complications of mumps may include testicular inflammation and meningitis. Testicular inflammation may cause infertility. Mumps has been eradicated from Finland thanks to immunisation, but cases still occur in other parts of the world. The vaccine is included in the National Vaccination Programme.
